Young people have some really brilliant ideas, but if no one pays attention, there's no way for them to be heard. That's why adults need to let young people be more involved and have a greater say in how things work.

In this presentation to the Positive Youth Development Network, Michele Luc discusses ways to prevent and respond to hate language in youth programs. Luc is a trainer and extension support specialist with ACT for Youth and Cornell University Cooperative Extension - NYC.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a student-centered approach that emphasizes building on students' strengths, developing skills through hands-on learning, giving young people voice in the learning process, and supporting youth through positive relationships. In this toolkit, we link to instructional practices and resources that youth work professionals can use to advance SEL.
Despite widespread support for sex education, condom demonstrations are often skipped for fear of controversy. This article uses research to make the case for condom demonstrations and practice.
Developed for youth-serving program providers funded by the New York State Department of Health, these guidelines give practical ideas for offering healthy food choices, raising awareness about nutrition, and engaging participants in menu planning and food preparation.
