  • New! Using Media and Technology to Improve Sexual Health Outcomes for Youth (2010) - Alwyn Cohall, MD, demonstrates that in clinical practice, using youth-friendly technology can lead to far better outcomes for adolescent sexual health. An associate professor at Mailman School of Public Health, Dr. Cohall directs the Harlem Health Promotion Center.
  • New! Family Planning 101 (2010) - Meera Beharry, MD, University of Rochester Medical Center, describes contraceptive methods available to adolescents and factors to consider in choosing an appropriate method. (21 minutes).
  • Adolescent Identity Development (2010) – Alana Butler, Cornell University, discusses social and self-identity, and gives examples of different stages and statuses in adolescent identity development. (13 minutes)
  • Adolescent Ethnic and Racial Identity Development (2010) – Alana Butler, Cornell University, gives an overview of ethnic and racial identity development, with a special focus on the "statuses" of development proposed by William Cross. (14 minutes).
  • Learning Theories (2010) – Jon Hirschberger, Cornell University, introduces theories about how we learn, including behaviorism and social learning theory. (14 minutes).
  • Civic Engagement (2009) – Hans DeBruyn, University of Rochester, offers an overview of civic engagement and its connection to social capital in the U.S. (25 minutes).
  • Community Resources Assessment (2010) - Robert Francis, ABCD Institute, introduces program providers to the ABCD approach to community resources assessment. (20 minutes).
  • The Cutting Edge: Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Adolescents  (2009) – Janis Whitlock, Cornell University, discusses ways to address self-injury. (15 minutes). A text version is also available in the December 2009 edition of Research fACTs and Findings (pdf).

  • Parent/Family Involvement (2009)– Julliet Coxum, New York State Center for School Safety, talks about the benefits and challenges of involving families in youth programs, and offers resources particularly for programs focusing on adolescent sexual health (18 minutes).

  • Planning for Evidence-Based Programming: Introducing the PSBA-GTO (2010) - Jutta Dotterweich, Cornell University, offers an overview of this highly recommended planning framework. (11 minutes).
  • Positive Strategies for Challenging Behaviors (2009) - Pardeice Powell McGoy, Cornell Cooperative Extension of New York City, discusses how youth workers can approach managing inappropriate behaviors in youth development settings. (18 minutes).

  • Positive Youth Development (2009) – Jutta Dotterweich, Cornell University, presents the positive youth development framework and the research supporting this approach. (14 minutes).
  • Science-Based Programming and Adaptation (2010) - Mary Martha Wilson, Healthy Teen Network, briefly reviews what is currently accepted about using science-based programs for adolescent sexual health, and introduces the green/yellow/red light adaptation framework. (9 minutes).
